been an interesting past few months

i'm at the record store right now listening to hendrix...the store is completly empty - and has been for the past hour...it's much too nice a day to be buying music i guess...

i spent the morning biking around town - to the library, the bookstore, the used bookstore, all through colonial williamsburg, to the grocery store...i'm in love with my bike...it gives me such a feeling of freedom and independence...i wish the roads around here were more bike friendly - or that i had more guts to ride the bigger roads...i also put lights on my bike now so that i can ride around at night without fearing death quite so much...riding home after working at the bookstore the other night was magic...i'm going to miss my bike on the island

i am going back to the island this summer...i have been officially hired back...i'm so excited to be spending my entire summer on the water again...i'm bummed though that brian is bringing his boat back to the island...i'm hoping that i can sweet talk mike into letting me take his and jay's boat out sailing...either that or i'll just have to be content to be motoring around on the water - which is fun in a different way i guess...holly will be back at there as well so i get to spend the summer with my girl! i am thinking of trying to stay out there after the summer...i can't wait for cocktail hours with mike, grilled fresh fish we just caught, beach walks...etc...i miss our little bungalo

i went to san diego again a few weeks back...i was riding high...it felt so right to be back there...sleeping on the boat, hanging out in ocean beach, eating numerous fish tacos, etc...one of the most exciting bits was going to the maritime museum - i got to walk through the star of india (an old functioning tall ship), as well as the ship that they built and used for master and commander (which was sweet!)...there was as exhibit in the hms surprise on the movie extras and it consisted almost 100% of photos of this guy named Al that i know who is the first mate on the Argus (the boy scout tall ship)...it was crazy!...other san diego highlights: the zoo (spec the bonobos), seeing Jen!!!, bar night, seeing the Beautiful Girls...

this is turning into a longer update than i meant it to...i guess thats all right seeing as i never update

i went to the ceramics studio the other night with lindsay...i ended up throwing some mugs...it was so amazing...i miss being in the studio so much...it centers me like crazy (no pun intended)...i generally produce crappy off center pieces - but i'm so okay with that - just to be playing with clay is enough...i wish there was some way that i could throw more often...

i'm on book 19/20 of my 52 in 2006 goal...i am ahead of schedule which makes me happy...have to keep my post graduate brain working

all right - enough for now...my carton of strawberries is calling me from the other counter so time to go eat...

can't wait til june - back to the island!

got home from work to find a postcard from brian in the mailbox! he sent it almost a month ago and it took that long to travel from mexico to me...but it has arrived!

went to the bookstore today and mourned my inability to buy all the books i would love to own...as soon as the weather gets warmer i have promised myself to bike to the library at least once a week...i am reading two books right now - the long way by bernard motiessier and jeeves in the morning by good ole pg wodehouse...

the downside of reading wodehouse though is that you find yourself longing for english estates, g&ts, men in tweed, and a man servent...you also start thinking in bertie nonsense speech which is not good when you start saying right ho and pip pip to unsuspecting co-workers

my mom and andreas were here all weekend...spent the weekend bouncing back from the burg and newport news to visit my brother...he fixed my bike!...we went to the water park at the great wolf lodge which was all right...we also went to visit the virginia living museum (i remembered kat saying that it was interesting and told my mom as we drove by, she changed three lanes and pulled into the parking lot and said "lets go now then"...she is a crazy lady)...anyways...we saw some frisky wolves and the upside to that is i now have pictures of crazy wolf sex...it was hilarious watching my 9 year old brother realize what was going on

and now i am off to go eat before another night of olympic tv marathon

i can't stop thinking about san diego. i am so excited. excited to see brian. excited to be in a place where i feel i could belong. excited to live on the water again, even if its only for a week. excited to feel home.

i love the feeling of the boat rocking me to sleep...hearing the water hit up against the sides whenever other boats paddle pass...listening to the fishing charter boats leave at 7 every morning...stumbling to the head in the middle of the night with only a headlamp to see by...eating dinner to a kerosene lamp...excited to see the old men sitting on their benches staring at the sea for hours - one sketching me while i was sitting on a piling thinking...waking up every morning to the sun peeking through the compaionway...cooking pancakes and eggs on the little stove...eating everything stuffed in a burrito...and then heading down to the beach, standing in the crazy cold pacific while brian goes surfing - maybe one day surfing myself...maybe sailing up to mission bay and anchoring for the night...

i miss the chile verde as much as i miss brian sometimes...is that wierd? to miss a boat?

i am about to start my next sailing adventure book of my current personal hero - bernard moitessier...i have been anticipating this book every since reading voyage for madman where i fell in love with this man...he was in the great race to sail around the world in the late 60s and despite being near the end and the most likely winner he decided to pull out and continue to non-stop singlehand around the world until he reached tahiti - an extra three months...he grew to hate the idea of the whole race and realized that there was nothing waiting for him england (the ending point) and decided to keep going until he was somewhere he wanted to be - somewhere warm...he is legend

but now i am off to go watch a dogtown and z-boys - a documentary that i got today at work...

i can't wait for san diego...

what i like about my job:
free promo cds

today my day was made when we got a curious george soundtrack promo (the day before its release) and my manager, knowing my love for jack johnson (as well as g love and matt costa who are also featured) and how excited i was to hear it, gave it to me!!!

so now i am sitting here just chillin, listening to new jack songs (though some are quite juvenile and school house rockish - i love it!)...and dreaming of my days on the beach to come

san diego march 14-21
catalina this summer hopefully
life is looking up
its amazing how something so little can restore a little optimism

really good night

went and saw thao and willis play over at the meridian...it was awesome to see live music again...then off to the corner pocket with the crew...shared some beers, some nachos, and some potential band names...it was really nice to be out and about on a saturday...instead of making more scarves :)

and now back home...tomorrow will hopefully be an early morning for me...between yoga and cleaning and a short shift at work, i can hopefully drag myself out of bed to get everything done before tomas gets here...i haven't seen him in forever and he might be delivering my possible future ipod...we shall see

i got an email from brian today...i wish i was having adventures in mexico! barefeet and skirts sound pretty good to me right now (not that he was talking about wearing skirts in his email...)...i am thinking of planning a trip out to san diego again in march...we shall see

and now for bed
